Ways to eliminate spacing around lists?

I am trying to remove the margin on the left side of a list that contains 3 items.

Here is my code:

ul li {
  display: inline;
  list-style: none;
}
<ul>
  <li>I have margin space on my left side</li>
  <li>List 2</li>
  <li>List 3</li>
</ul>
<p>
Hi! I am a text without any margin!
</p>

Answer №1

To remove any extra padding on your ul, simply set padding to 0. See the code snippet below for an example:

ul {
  padding: 0;
}

ul li {
  display: inline;
  list-style: none;
}
<ul>
  <li>Hey, now I don't have extra space on my left side!</li>
  <li>List 2</li>
  <li>List 3</li>
</ul>
<p>Hi! I am a text without any margin!</p>

Answer №2

Everything appears to be functioning correctly

ul {
    display: inline;
    list-style: none;
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
}

li{
    display: inline;
}
<ul>
    <li>I have padding on my right side</li>
    <li>List 2</li>
    <li>List 3</li>
</ul>
<p>
    Hello! I am a paragraph with no padding!
</p>

Answer №3

To reset the ul margin and padding, set them both to zero (0)

ul {
  padding: 0;
  margin: 0;
}

ul li {
  display: inline;
  list-style: none;
}
<ul>
  <li>I have margin space on my left side</li>
  <li>List 2</li>
  <li>List 3</li>
</ul>
<p>
Hi! I am a text without any margin!
</p>

Answer №4

To address the issue of the default browser styles, it is necessary to reset the padding specifically for the ul element.

By inspecting the browser default settings using the Chrome dev tools, you can observe the values as shown in the image below.

Code

ul {
  padding-left: 0;
}

ul li {
  display: inline;
  list-style: none;
  margin-left: 0;
}
<ul>
  <li>I have margin space on my left side</li>
  <li>List 2</li>
  <li>List 3</li>
</ul>
<p>
Hi! I am a text without any margin!
</p>

Answer №5

To apply a universal style rule, simply add the following code to your stylesheet:

* {padding:0; margin:0;}

Incorporating this code at the beginning of your style sheet will reset the default margin and padding for all elements.

Give it a try and hopefully it will do the trick!
