Utilizing a box within a background image using HTML and CSS

In the midst of my college project, I've encountered a hurdle. There's an image I need to overlay with a box that has padding on all sides corresponding to the outline of the image. Despite my attempts, I haven't been successful in achieving this. Would anyone be able to provide me with an HTML and CSS example to help solve this issue?

Answer №1

Set the image as the background of a div, then use padding to center the inner div within it.

.inner {
    background-color: blue;
    width: 100%;
    height: 100%
}

.background {
    background-image: url('http://placehold.it/800x600');
    width: 100%;
    background-size: cover;
    height: 300px;
    padding: 50px;
    box-sizing: border-box;
}

Answer №2

Utilize an image as the background using "background: url(...)" within the initial div. Inside this div, add a second div with padding set to "padding: 25px" (for instance). Could it be that I misunderstood your instructions?
