Using jQuery to generate speech bubbles with HTML and CSS styling

My project manager has requested that I incorporate speech bubbles into the design to highlight features or offer help to users.

These speech bubbles must accommodate varying amounts of text, ranging from just a few words to a substantial block. They should expand accordingly.

When the user clicks on the help button (?), the bubble should smoothly appear without disrupting the rest of the interface.

Answer №1

If you want to achieve this using just CSS, check out a great resource at

The only exception would be the fading effect, which can easily be done with jQuery.

If you're struggling with creating rounded borders, remember to use the CSS attribute `border-radius: #px;`

For better browser compatibility, consider adding these attributes:

-webkit-border-radius: #px;
-moz-border-radius: #px;

Answer №2

Creating a CSS-only solution with rounded corners may present challenges when trying to make it compatible with IE8 and earlier versions. It's important to thoroughly test the design on multiple platforms before finalizing the implementation.

Answer №3

It's true that border-radius is not compatible with IE8 and earlier versions. However, you have the option of using Sprint or PIE CSS as a solution instead.

Answer №4

Determine the distance between the top and bottom of an object, then draw a line representing that height from the container. To accurately measure the height of the container's content, replicate it outside the visible screen area with the same CSS properties.
