Tips for eliminating those annoying additional spaces

When I inspect the top widget on my WordPress page using Chrome Developer Tools, I notice a height property that is causing extra spaces to appear above and below the widget (highlighted in yellow in the attached image).

I have spent countless hours trying to locate and modify this height attribute without success. It's frustrating not knowing where it originates from or how to resolve it.

Your assistance in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Answer №1

There appears to be numerous unicode sequences surrounding your element in the source code, which is causing the excessive spacing. (These can be seen using firebug)

Although not visible in the source code, these characters are 'ZERO WIDTH SPACE' (U+200B)

Answer №2

To eliminate them, you can use regular expressions in JavaScript:

HTML = HTML.replace(/[\u200B-\u200D\uFEFF]/g, '');

In C#, you can do it like this:

hVal = Regex.Replace(hVal, "[\\u200B-\\u200D\\uFEFF]", "");
