Tips for disabling automatic sliding in Bootstrap 5 carousel specifically on larger screens

I am working with a Bootstrap 5 carousel that I need to configure to stop autosliding on large screens, but maintain autoslide functionality on mobile devices. Is there a way to achieve this using only HTML and CSS/SCSS?

I am aware of the

data-bs-interval="false"
attribute, but that stops the autoslide for mobile screens as well.

<div id="carouselExampleControls" class="carousel slide" data-bs-ride="carousel">
  <div class="carousel-inner">
    <div class="carousel-item active">
      <img src="..." class="d-block w-100" alt="...">
    </div>
    <div class="carousel-item">
      <img src="..." class="d-block w-100" alt="...">
    </div>
    <div class="carousel-item">
      <img src="..." class="d-block w-100" alt="...">
    </div>
  </div>
  <button class="carousel-control-prev" type="button" data-bs-target="#carouselExampleControls" data-bs-slide="prev">
    <span class="carousel-control-prev-icon" aria-hidden="true"></span>
    <span class="visually-hidden">Previous</span>
  </button>
  <button class="carousel-control-next" type="button" data-bs-target="#carouselExampleControls" data-bs-slide="next">
    <span class="carousel-control-next-icon" aria-hidden="true"></span>
    <span class="visually-hidden">Next</span>
  </button>
</div>

Answer №1

Insert this code snippet at the bottom of the body section

<script>
    if(window.innerWidth > 1000){
      document.getElementById('carouselExampleControls').dataset.bsInterval = false
    }
</script>

This snippet will assess the window size before loading and change the value of data-bs-interval to false if the size exceeds 1000 pixels

Answer №2

To disable the interval feature and set the window width with JavaScript, you can use the following code snippet:

var myCarousel = document.querySelector('#carouselExampleControls');
if ($(window).width() > 991) {
  var carousel = new bootstrap.Carousel(myCarousel, {
    interval: false
  });
}

Answer №3

After going through the latest Bootstrap 5 Carousel Documentation, I have successfully implemented a responsive solution using jQuery for window resize.

$(document).ready(function() {
    $(window).resize(function() {
        if ($(window).width() < 768) {
            $('#FirstBox').removeClass('active');
            $('#SecondBox').addClass('active');
            $('#ThirdBox').removeClass('active');
            $('#MyCarousel').attr({
                'data-bs-ride': 'carousel',
                'data-bs-pause': 'hover',
                'data-bs-interval': 3000
            }).carousel('cycle');
        }

        if ($(window).width() >= 768) {
            $('#FirstBox').addClass('active');
            $('#SecondBox').addClass('active');
            $('#ThirdBox').addClass('active');
            $('#MyCarousel').attr({
                'data-bs-interval': false,
                'data-bs-ride': false,
                'data-bs-pause': true
            }).carousel('pause');
        }
    });
    $(window).trigger('resize');
});
