The process of overriding CSS applied through JavaScript

I am using a third-party multi-select dropdown. Similar to Select2, the multi-select dropdown is created using JQuery with select2.min.js and the width of the dropdown is automatically calculated. Is there any way to apply static width to it, as I believe that JS-applied CSS takes precedence?

Here is the code generated by JQuery:

<span class="select2 select2-container select2-container--default select2-container--focus" dir="ltr" data-select2-id="1" style="width: 323px;"><span class="selection"><span class="select2-selection select2-selection--multiple" role="combobox" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false" tabindex="-1" aria-disabled="false">
  <ul class="select2-selection__rendered">
    <li class="select2-search select2-search--inline"><input class="select2-search__field" type="search" tabindex="0" autocomplete="off" autocorrect="off" autocapitalize="none" spellcheck="false" role="searchbox" aria-autocomplete="list" placeholder="" style="width: 0.75em;"></li>
  </ul>
</span></span><span class="dropdown-wrapper" aria-hidden="true"></span></span>

Answer №1

Employ the !important declaration in your CSS styles.

Answer №2

There are numerous methods for declaring CSS and each of them carries its own level of importance. Adding !important to a CSS class can often resolve the issue at hand, although this may pose difficulties if you need to modify the value in the future.

Alternatively, you might consider utilizing the .css() function in JQuery to alter the CSS value and see if that yields any positive results. If not, employing a more specific selector in your CSS could potentially override the default styling provided by the library.
