The hamburger menu in Bootstrap is malfunctioning on mobile devices

I have been troubleshooting the issue, but nothing seems to be fixing it for me.

Oddly enough, when I resize the browser window, the hamburger menu appears and functions properly. However, when I check on my phone, it doesn't seem to work at all. Could I have made a mistake somewhere?

This is the code I currently have:

HTML:

<nav class="navbar navbar-inverse navbar-fixed-top">
  <div class="container">
    <div class="navbar-header">
      <button type="button" class="navbar-toggle collapsed" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#navbar" aria-expanded="false" aria-controls="navbar">
        <span class="sr-only">Toggle navigation</span>
        <span class="icon-bar"></span>
        <span class="icon-bar"></span>
        <span class="icon-bar"></span>
      </button>
      <a class="navbar-brand" href="#">Roy van Eerden</a>
    </div>
    <div id="navbar" class="navbar-collapse collapse">
      <ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
        <li class="active"><a href="#about">Home</a></li>
        <li><a href="#skills">Portfolio</a></li>
        <li><a href="#experience">Over</a></li>
        <li><a href="#contact">Contact</a></li>
      </ul>
    </div>
  </div>
</nav>

Here is a screenshot showing how it looks on a mobile phone:

Answer №1

To fix the issue, make sure to place jquery.js above bootstrap.min.js in your code.

Additionally, don't forget to include the following meta tag in the head section:

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width; initial-scale=1.0; maximum-scale=1.0;" />

If you need visual guidance, you can check out this image here.

Answer №2

Simply insert the following meta tag within the head section of your HTML document:

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">

Answer №3

Please ensure that you have included the entire HTML section, especially make sure to replace your current navigation code with the one provided below (from W3Schools Documentation).

<nav class="navbar navbar-inverse">
  <div class="container-fluid">
    <div class="navbar-header">
      <button type="button" class="navbar-toggle" data-toggle="collapse" data-target="#myNavbar">
        <span class="icon-bar"></span>
        <span class="icon-bar"></span>
        <span class="icon-bar"></span>
      </button>
      <a class="navbar-brand" href="#">WebSiteName</a>
    </div>
    <div class="collapse navbar-collapse" id="myNavbar">
      <ul class="nav navbar-nav">
        <li class="active"><a href="#">Home</a></li>
        <li class="dropdown">
          <a class="dropdown-toggle" data-toggle="dropdown" href="#">Page 1 <span class="caret"></span></a>
          <ul class="dropdown-menu">
            <li><a href="#">Page 1-1</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">Page 1-2</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">Page 1-3</a></li>
          </ul>
        </li>
        <li><a href="#">Page 2</a></li>
        <li><a href="#">Page 3</a></li>
      </ul>
      <ul class="nav navbar-nav navbar-right">
        <li><a href="#"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-user"></span> Sign Up</a></li>
        <li><a href="#"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-log-in"></span> Login</a></li>
      </ul>
    </div>
  </div>
</nav>
