The CSS fullscreen background appears to function properly in Dev-tools, but fails to display correctly in an actual browser

I recently created a Meteor App/Website and I am encountering an issue with the fullscreen background image at the top of the page ().

While the image displays correctly in Chrome Developer tools and Safari Responsive Design mode, it appears zoomed in on my mobile device instead of resizing properly. This results in a grey blur covering the image.

Has anyone else faced this problem? It's challenging to troubleshoot since the image appears fine in developer tools but not on an actual mobile device.

I have included a link to screenshots showing the difference between my mobile (iPhone 6s, safari browser) and Safari's responsive design mode on my mac. Unfortunately, I can't upload images due to my reputation limitations, so please refer to the link below:

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Answer №1

After conducting thorough research on iOS-specific issues, I eventually stumbled upon the solution by examining various examples.

Interestingly, I discovered that the majority of browsers interpret the CSS line

.container{
   background: url(http://www.link-to-image.jpg)
   ...
}

However, this approach does not apply to iOS devices. In this case, it is necessary to explicitly specify that the background is an image.

.container{
 background-image: url(http://www.link-to-image.jpg)
 ...
}
