Styling and scripting with CSS and jQuery in an external JavaScript file

Is it possible to add the jquery library from "http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.2/jquery.min.js" into an external .js file? And how can a .css file be included in a .js file?

Answer №1

let scriptElement = document.createElement('script');
scriptElement.src = 'http://example.com/test.js';
document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(scriptElement);

Answer №2

To include JS files in HTML files, you must run a JS App on a website that is displaying an HTML file with the JS files already integrated.

If you are utilizing jQuery, you can add a JS file to HTML using :

 $.getScript(url, successCallback);

Here is an asynchronous Vanilla JS function:

function loadScript(src, callback)
{
  var s,
      r,
      t;
  r = false;
  s = document.createElement('script');
  s.type = 'text/javascript';
  s.src = src;
  s.onload = s.onreadystatechange = function() {
    //console.log( this.readyState ); //uncomment this line to see which ready states are called.
    if ( !r && (!this.readyState || this.readyState == 'complete') )
    {
      r = true;
      callback();
    }
  };
  t = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0];
  t.parentNode.insertBefore(s, t);
}

You can also consolidate all your code into one file or utilize build systems to combine and condense your files for production purposes.
