resizing a big image to perfectly fit the width of the screen with the help of

Is there a way to use AngularJS to automatically adjust the size of a large image to fit the screen on various devices (responsive), similar to how it is done on this website?

Are there any Angular directives available for this purpose, or would I need to create a custom directive or factory? Has anyone had experience with WURFL Image Tailor (WIT)?

Answer №1

Most of the time, there is no need for angularjs. You can achieve the same effect using just css, specifically the background-size property.

For instance, if you want to scale to fit the width:

.background {
  background-size: 100% auto;
}

Alternatively, if you want to scale to fit the height:

.background {
  background-size: auto 100%;
}

Answer №2

The link you provided directs to a website that utilizes a clever background-image technique: instead of adjusting the size of the image, it uses the image as a background for a div element and then styles the div accordingly:

height: 840px;
background-image: url('pathToImage');
background-size: cover;
background-position: center center;

This method is accomplished solely through CSS - without the need for Angular or JavaScript.

On the other hand, WURFL Image Tailor operates differently by delivering images of varying sizes (both dimensions and file sizes) based on the screen width. This approach is beneficial when you want to prevent smaller screen browsers from downloading images in their original large resolution and size. (The logic is that smaller screens typically indicate mobile devices with slower internet connections.)
