png showing the backdrop, not the background image

Struggling with aligning multiple layers on my website.

The primary background of my site is a sleek black #000000.

Next, there's a div featuring a centered background image that complements the black backdrop perfectly.

I'm attempting to overlay my logo - a PNG file with a transparent background - atop the aforementioned image.

Seems simple enough, but instead of a clean transparency effect, I'm left with a dark outline around my logo against the image.

Why is the transparency reaching all the way down two layers to my background color, rather than just stopping at the background image?
