Modifying the appearance of the login field shown in the image

How can I align the login and password fields in the same order on my webpage? When I attempt to adjust their positions using CSS margin commands, both fields end up moving. Any suggestions?

Answer №1

If you're looking for a solution, consider trying this method. While there are multiple ways to achieve the desired outcome, this approach is often the simplest and most direct.

For a practical example, check out this link: http://jsfiddle.net/QutGz/1/

It seems like there may be some confusion with the fiddle link provided. To create equal width "columns," you can use the following CSS:

label
{
float:left;
width: 100px;
}

input
{
float:left;
}

Make sure to set the width value to accommodate the longest label text in your form. This will ensure consistent column widths.

Answer №2

To ensure the proper alignment of inputs in relation to one another and their parent elements, utilize CSS float:

For a demonstration, check out this example on Fiddle!

If you have a layout similar to the following:

<form method="post" action="#">
  <div class="clear">
    <label>USERNAME</label>
    <input type="text" value="" name="foo">
  </div>
  <div class="clear">
    <label>PASSWORD</label>
    <input type="text" value="" name="bar">
  </div>
</form>

The recommended CSS styling would be as follows:

input[type="text"] {
  float: right;
}
.clear {
  clear:both;
}
