Is there a way to align these side by side?

Is it a silly question? Perhaps. But I can't seem to figure out how to align my text and colorpicker on the same line instead of two. Take a look at my fiddle. I've tried removing display:block and clear:both, but that didn't do the trick. Here is the snippet of code:

<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8" />
<title>jQuery UI Datepicker - Default functionality</title>
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.8.1.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.10.1/themes/base/jquery-ui.css" />
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/ui/1.10.1/jquery-ui.js"></script>

<link href="http://evoluteur.github.com/colorpicker/css/evol.colorpicker.css" rel="stylesheet" />
<script src="http://evoluteur.github.com/colorpicker/js/evol.colorpicker.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
    $("#color_picker").colorpicker();
});

</script>
</head>
<body>
    <span>Select a color: <input id="color_picker" value="#92cddc"/></span>
</body>
</html>

To view the full css and js, please refer to my fiddle (I prefer not to overcrowd this space with code).

Answer №1

Consider trying out this approach: http://jsfiddle.net/D8bZU/9/

html:

<div style='display:flex; justify-content:center;'>
  Pick a color: <input id="color_picker" value="#92cddc"/>
</div>

javascript:

$(document).ready(function(){
    $("#color_picker").colorpicker();
    $("#color_picker").parent().css('float','right');
});

I recommend exploring the use of flexbox in CSS as an alternative.

Key highlights to note:

Incorporating the colorpicker plugin wraps the input within a div element, resulting in potential layout issues which can be rectified using jQuery's .parent() method for dynamic styling adjustments.

Answer №2

Check out this straightforward answer:

$("span > div").addClass("inline-block");

See it in action here: http://jsfiddle.net/Z8iBH/8/

Answer №3

The problem:

When you use the color picker, it places your <input> element inside a wrapping div. Here is how the code will be generated:

<span>Choose a color:
    <div style="width:181px;">
        <input id="color_picker" value="#92cddc" class="colorPicker evo-cp0">
        <div class="evo-colorind" style="background-color:#92cddc"></div>
    </div>
</span>

This results in an extra line break in the output.

Solution: View Live Demo

To fix this, simply add the following CSS rule to set the display property of the div to inline-block;.

Code:

$(document).ready(function(){
    $("#color_picker").colorpicker();

    $("#color_picker").parent().css("display", "inline-block");
});
