Increase in textbox size depending on selected dropdown value

Our concept involves offering three choices:

  1. Email #1 pulled from the database
  2. Email #2 retrieved from the database
  3. Input a new email

Should the user select option #3, a textbox will expand at the bottom of the dropdown menu for easy entry of a new email address.

Have you come across a similar design anywhere? Are there any examples or techniques you can share?

Answer №1

To set up this functionality, simply include a form field with the initial property style="display:none", and then reveal it when the third option is selected.

Below is a basic implementation:

<select onchange="showEmailField(this)">
   <!-- Add your options here -->
</select>
<input type="text" name="email" id="email" style="display: none;" />

JavaScript:

function showEmailField(element) {
    if(element.selectedIndex==2) {
        document.getElementById('email').style.display = "";
    }
}
