IE 8 behaves in varying ways depending on the computer it is used on

Why might IE 8 behave differently on two separate machines?

Specifically, when visiting this site:

One machine experiences the issue of the "X" disappearing and not being able to minimize a slideshow after maximizing it. However, on another machine, even in IE6, this function works properly.

Encountered a similar issue when the IE8-to-IE7 compatibility mode was automatically enabled on Intranet websites (surprising, right?), causing my IE8 to think it was actually an IE7. If you're facing this problem too, simply include

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge" >

within the head section of your HTML document. This will ensure that IE8 behaves like IE8 should... Thanks Microsoft!
