HTML - Navbar and Sidebar Only Partially Spanning the Width

Hey there! I am trying to make my sidebar and navbar full width, but for some reason, they are not extending all the way. Can anyone help me figure out why? Below is the code I'm using:

I have included an image to illustrate the issue:

Side Bar

The sidebar isn't displaying in full width as intended:

<ul class="sidebar navbar-nav">
<li class="nav-item active">
  <a class="nav-link" href="index.html">
    <i class="fas fa-fw fa-tachometer-alt"></i>
    <span>Dashboard</span>
  </a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item dropdown">
  <a class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" href="#" id="pagesDropdown" role="button" data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">
    <i class="fas fa-fw fa-folder"></i>
    <span>Pages</span>
  </a>
  <div class="dropdown-menu" aria-labelledby="pagesDropdown">
    <h6 class="dropdown-header">Login Screens:</h6>
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="login.html">Login</a>
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="register.html">Register</a>
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="forgot-password.html">Forgot Password</a>
    <div class="dropdown-divider"></div>
    <h6 class="dropdown-header">Other Pages:</h6>
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="404.html">404 Page</a>
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="blank.html">Blank Page</a>
  </div>
</li>
<li class="nav-item">
  <a class="nav-link" href="charts.html">
    <i class="fas fa-fw fa-chart-area"></i>
    <span>Charts</span></a>
</li>
<li class="nav-item">
  <a class="nav-link" href="tables.html">
    <i class="fas fa-fw fa-table"></i>
    <span>Tables</span></a>
</li>

Nav Bar

Similarly, the navigation bar is also not reaching full width:

<nav class="navbar navbar-expand navbar-dark bg-dark static-top">

  <a class="navbar-brand mr-1" href="index.html">Start Bootstrap</a>

  <button class="btn btn-link btn-sm text-white order-1 order-sm-0" id="sidebarToggle" href="#">
    <i class="fas fa-bars"></i>
  </button>

  <!-- Navbar Search -->
  <form class="d-none d-md-inline-block form-inline ml-auto mr-0 mr-md-3 my-2 my-md-0">
    <div class="input-group">
      <input type="text" class="form-control" placeholder="Search for..." aria-label="Search" aria-describedby="basic-addon2">
      <div class="input-group-append">
        <button class="btn btn-primary" type="button">
          <i class="fas fa-search"></i>
        </button>
      </div>
    </div>
  </form>

  <!-- Navbar -->
  <ul class="navbar-nav ml-auto ml-md-0">

    <li class="nav-item dropdown no-arrow">
      <a class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" href="#" id="userDropdown" role="button" data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">
        <i class="fas fa-user-circle fa-fw"></i>
      </a>
      <div class="dropdown-menu dropdown-menu-right" aria-labelledby="userDropdown">
        <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Settings</a>
        <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Activity Log</a>
        <div class="dropdown-divider"></div>
        <a class="dropdown-item" href="#" data-toggle="modal" data-target="#logoutModal">Logout</a>
      </div>
    </li>
  </ul>

</nav>

Answer №1

There appears to be some padding in the classes you are using, which you can verify by inspecting the element.

A possible solution is to use "margin-left," but this may not always be the best approach as it could cause issues on larger screens.
