Having trouble with your Bootstrap 4 Dropdown Menu?

I attempted to implement the dropdown menu example from Bootstrap 4, but unfortunately it does not seem to be working as expected. The dropdown menu does not appear when clicked.

<li class="nav-item dropdown">
    <a class="nav-link dropdown-toggle" href="#" id="dropdown01" data-toggle="dropdown" aria-haspopup="true" aria-expanded="false">Dropdown</a>
    <div class="dropdown-menu" aria-labelledby="dropdown01">
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Action</a>
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Another action</a>
    <a class="dropdown-item" href="#">Something else here</a>
  </div>
</li>

Answer №1

Edit: To resolve the issue mentioned by OP, make sure to import the popper.js file.

Verify that jQuery and all necessary Bootstrap components are included. Also, check the console for any errors.

<script src="https://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.2.1.slim.min.js" integrity="sha384-KJ3o2DKtIkvYIK3UENzmM7KCkRr/rE9/Qpg6aAZGJwFDMVNA/GpGFF93hXpG5KkN" crossorigin="anonymous"></script>

Answer №3

Insert the following snippet into your jQuery script

$('.dropdown').click(function(){

       $('.dropdown-menu').toggleClass('show');

   });

Answer №4

If you have installed Bootstrap and Popper libraries using the Nuget package manager in Visual Studio for a web application, you can include a reference to popper.min.js in the Master page file (Site.Master) right below where the body tag begins. Just add the following line of code:

<script src="Scripts/umd/popper.min.js"></script>

For a clearer understanding of the location, refer to this image:

https://i.sstatic.net/kKEUv.png

It's important to note that you should include the popper library from the umd folder, not the one outside in the Scripts folder. This adjustment should resolve the issue you are experiencing.

By following these steps, you should be able to fix the problem at hand.

Answer №5

Using JavaScript to Trigger Dropdowns

To activate dropdown menus using JavaScript:

Add the following code snippet after bootstrap.min.js

$('.dropdown-toggle').dropdown();

Additionally, ensure that you have popper.min.js included before bootstrap.min.js

Popper.js is responsible for positioning the dropdowns (except when they are placed within a navbar).

Answer №6

Make sure to include these scripts in your order of operations for it to function correctly. It might seem like magic, but it works like a charm :D

<!-- jQuery -->
<script src="js/jquery-3.4.1.min.js"></script>

<!-- Popper -->
<script src="js/popper.min.js"></script>

<!-- Bootstrap js -->
<script src="js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>

Answer №7

The issue lies with the popper.js file. Upon investigation on the official site, I discovered that bundle files already contain Popper but not jQuery. To address this, I resolved the issue by including the following files:

bootstrap.bundle.js
bootstrap.bundle.min.js

As a result, I removed popper.js from the equation since it is already embedded within the bundle file.

Answer №8

Ensure that you add the Bootstrap CSS by either using the Bootstrap CDN or by downloading it and linking it locally.

Utilizing NuGet, I installed BootStrap 4 but encountered an issue where the Dropdown wasn't displaying on click. The Chrome console was showing an error related to jQuery.

Originally, my setup looked like this:

<%-- CSS --%>
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="/Content/bootstrap.css" />

 <%-- JS --%>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/Scripts/jquery-3.3.1.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/Scripts/bootstrap.min.js"></script>

Switching to the bundled version resolved the issue:

<%-- CSS --%>
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="/Content/bootstrap.css" />

<%-- JS --%>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/Scripts/jquery-3.3.1.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/Scripts/bootstrap.bundle.min.js"></script>

Answer №10

Insert the following code snippet at the bottom of the body tag in your HTML document

<script src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/<a href="/cdn-cgi/l/email-protection" class="__cf_email__" data-cfemail="11737e7e65626563706151243f213f23">[email protected]</a>/dist/js/bootstrap.bundle.min.js" integrity="sha384-MrcW6ZMFYlzcLA8Nl+NtUVF0sA7MsXsP1UyJoMp4YLEuNSfAP+JcXn/tWtIaxVXM" crossorigin="anonymous"></script>

Answer №11

One easy solution is to swap out the following line:

<script type="text/javascript" src="your_directory/bootstrap.min.js"></script>

with this alternative:

<script type="text/javascript" src="your_directory/bootstrap.bundle.min.js"></script>

Answer №12

Here is the solution I used

To fix the issue, I decided to download the most recent version of jQuery directly from their official site. Once I had the file, I added it to my project directory and included it in my HTML file. This resolved the problem and everything was functioning properly afterward.

Answer №13

Ensure you enqueue either the script bootstrap.js or bootstrap.min.js. I encountered a similar issue with bootstrap 4.5.3, and after enqueuing one of these scripts, the menu started functioning properly. It doesn't matter which one you choose, as long as one of them is enqueued.

Answer №14

Make sure to use /bootstrap.js instead of incorrectly using /bootstrap.min.js.
