Guide to upgrading from Bootstrap 2.2 to the newest version 3.2

I have an older project using Bootstrap 2.2 and I am looking to update it to Bootstrap 3.4 without having to change any code. Additionally, I want to incorporate the new features of Bootstrap 3.2. How can I effectively use both versions of Bootstrap without running into any issues?

Answer №1

For those with simple code, consider giving the Bootstrap Upgrader a chance. It does a pretty decent job on basic Bootstrap 2 sites. Another option is Bootply's own tool, but based on my past experience, the BS Upgrader seems to work better. However, it's always a good idea to check out the official Bootstrap Migration Page to understand any changes that have been made before attempting to upgrade your site.

Answer №2

It is generally not recommended to update your bootstrap version. Previous bootstrap versions may have classes that are no longer available in newer versions, requiring you to make changes to your HTML and CSS.

For example, in bootstrap 2.2, alignment classes are named span1, span2, etc., whereas in bootstrap 3.2 they are named col-md-1, col-md-2, etc. for a responsive grid structure.

Updating to a new bootstrap version can potentially disrupt your current HTML structure and design.
