Experience the sleek and intuitive Material Design Lite navigation drawer, inspired by the likes of Google Android

Currently, I am incorporating Material design lite into my website and have found many templates that work well. However, I am looking to make a slight design modification to the navigation drawer. Here is the dashboard template I am currently utilizing:

In this particular design, the navigation drawer overlaps the nav bar. I would like the design to resemble that of Google's official Android website and YouTube.

Here are the designs from Android and YouTube for reference:

Below is my current design:

Provided below is the code snippet for the template:

<div class="mdl-layout mdl-js-layout mdl-layout--fixed-header">
  <header class="mdl-layout__header">
    <div class="mdl-layout__header-row">
      <!-- Title -->
      <span class="mdl-layout-title">Title</span>
      <!-- Add spacer, to align navigation to the right -->
      <div class="mdl-layout-spacer"></div>
      <!-- Navigation. We hide it in small screens. -->
      <nav class="mdl-navigation mdl-layout--large-screen-only">
        <a class="mdl-navigation__link" href="">Link</a>
        <a class="mdl-navigation__link" href="">Link</a>
        <a class="mdl-navigation__link" href="">Link</a>
        <a class="mdl-navigation__link" href="">Link</a>
      </nav>
    </div>
  </header>
  <div class="mdl-layout__drawer">
    <span class="mdl-layout-title">Title</span>
    <nav class="mdl-navigation">
      <a class="mdl-navigation__link" href="">Link</a>
      <a class="mdl-navigation__link" href="">Link</a>
      <a class="mdl-navigation__link" href="">Link</a>
      <a class="mdl-navigation__link" href="">Link</a>
    </nav>
  </div>
  <main class="mdl-layout__content">
    <div class="page-content"><!-- Your content goes here --></div>
  </main>
</div>

If anyone can provide guidance on how to achieve a navigation drawer design similar to that of Android and YouTube, it would be greatly appreciated.

Answer №1

Here is the solution:

.mdl-layout--fixed-header>.mdl-layout__header {
  z-index: 6;
}

.has-drawer .mdl-layout__drawer {
  padding-top: 64px;
}

.mdl-layout--fixed-drawer:not(.is-small-screen)>.mdl-layout__header {
  padding-left: 240px;
  margin-left: 0;
  width: 100%;
}
