CSS / JavaScript Navigation Menu overshadowing Flash content in Firefox

On my website, I have a drop-down menu that was created using CSS and JavaScript. This menu drops down over a Flash animation. Interestingly, in Internet Explorer 6 and 7, the drop-down menus successfully appear over the Flash animation. However, in Mozilla Firefox 2 and 3, these menus are unfortunately shown underneath the Flash animation. Is there a solution to make this dynamic menu flow OVER the Flash in Firefox?

In Internet Explorer 7, the menu is displayed over the Flash:

But in Firefox, the menu appears under the Flash: (How can I resolve this issue?!)

Answer №1

Consider adjusting the wmode to transparent - check out this link

Answer №2

The wmode=opaque setting was successful in my case

You can see the result on this website: www.toolgal.com, just hover over the products menu in the top navigation bar

Regards, Dan

Answer №3

To achieve the desired layering effect, consider using z-index to prioritize the menu with a value of around 100 and set the flash movie to a negative value such as -1.

Best wishes

Answer №4

Did you attempt using the iframe technique (for instance, placing an iframe behind the menu to keep the flash layers in the background)?

Answer №5

The use of the iframe-trick is specifically tailored for older versions of Internet Explorer, such as IE7 or below. Therefore, it is unlikely to be effective in addressing issues in Firefox.

One potential solution could be to enable wmode=transparent, which prevents the Flash content from creating its own window handle (HWND).

Answer №6

To ensure wmode=transparent is active, it is recommended. However, it should be mentioned that Firefox in Linux may not comply with this setting, resulting in the flash content remaining on top.
